Happy fall everyone! Now that the season is upon us, it is time to talk about Halloween! In this post I will be discussing me and my wife’s recent visit to the Howl-o-Scream Media Event hosted by Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay – Florida (BGTB).  Howl-o-scream was outstanding this year, everything from the obvious decor, to the little details like makeup Busch Gardens really outdid theirselves this year.

Howl-O-Scream Busch Gardens Tampa Bay - Florida

VIP Night Howl O Scream September 21, 2018 Busch Gardens ,Tampa Bay – Florida

When you arrive at Busch Gardens entrance you are greeted by the scare-actors and if you haven’t attended a Howl o Scream in previous years, you are in for a real treat. Busch Gardens always finds the best actors to perform for Howl-o-scream, and they do a really great job scaring people.

This year the hashtag for howl-o-scream is #nowheretohide, and I think it suits the event perfectly. With six houses, four (marked on the map) scare zones, two bonus scare zones  (unmarked on the map) , and the roaming scare-actors there is exactly no where to hide from getting spooked!

So we got checked into media night, and were surprised to find out we had the opportunity to interview the creator of the houses, and go through the all new house for 2018  “Insomnia” while Busch Garden’s Media team filmed us and provided scare cam footage. Below is the interview with the creator of “Insomnia” & scare cam footage, hopefully its a little entertaining!

After we were done with Insomnia we were off to Unearthed. Howl-O-Scream had this house in previous years, but in all honesty its my favorite.. and who knows with the new announcement they made this year, we might not get to see unearthed anymore since it is located in Gwazi. Anyways this house is about a centuries-old house that has been Unearthed, unleashing a vengeful demon seeking revenge. You can see the walkthrough video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVPxYZDvjoE&t=149s Our scare-actor at the end was just a little disappointed we didn’t come out with any of her fellow construction workers.

Meat Market - Scare Zone - Howl-o-Scream - Busch Gardens, Tampa Bay - Florida

“Meat Market” 17+ Suggested

Next up was new for 2018 “Simons Slaughterhouse”, but in order to get to the house you have to go through the “meat market” scare zone. The Meat Market scare zone is suggested for those who are seventeen and up. Cannibalistic creatures feast on the weak as they add to their Monster Menu of human hors d’oeuvres.  I think it was the best scare zone of the night. Like I mentioned earlier, Busch really does find good actors for Howl-o-Scream. As you can see in this video they take their scaring seriously: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rvinD7oBuQ

Motel hell - Howl o Scream

“Motel Shellburn”

After Simon’s, we went over to Motel S”hell”burn with the infamous Mr.Sandman Song. A deserted motel where the sandman awaits to claim your soul! He’s tricky to see because he blends in so well. Watch out if you dare to watch Motel Hell! You can see the walkthrough at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbUexXi2NKk&t=150s

Following Motel hell, we made our way to the black spot but before we could get there we had to go through Deadly toys scare zone, this scare zone is where we discovered the “bush gypsies” that blend in with the bushes and out of nowhere emit noises and give you a mini heart attack. I wish Busch would’ve put a little more into this scare zone..Maybe next year! If you would like to see the walkthrough you can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnZEDoJrTVE

Black Spot - Howl-O-Scream - Walkthrough

“Black Spot”

After making it to the Black Spot we are greeted by a ghostly gal telling us to turn back, and to watch out for the captain because he’s sure to mark you with the black spot. This house is also one that may not be there next year due to the new ride “Tigris” will be added to that section of the park, but who knows! Anyways you can enjoy this lowlight walkthrough of the blackspot while its still here!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOUcwGgV3kc&t=40s

Making our way out of the black spot in the sky we could see coaster track lit up, so we had to go take a ride on the Sheikra, nothing gives you the rush like dive coasters 🙂 This year there is DJ Dance section next to the flume ride across from the Sheikra, theres music, dancing, nurses with jello “shots” and more! Its certainly a great area to get away and relax away from the scares for a minute. Still e on the lookout though #nowheretohide

When leaving the Sheikra section you are led straight into Camp D.O.A. A night as this deadly campground ensures a sleepover like no other. Campers should sleep with one eye open as swamp mutants arise to make sure nobody gets a good night’s sleep at this haunted marsh. This scare zone was really well done, it has a bunch of theming, and scare-actors. Watch out for the baby! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iNg7eNz5Lo&t=15s

So from this point on its back to back scare zone, so charted on the map you see manic midway, you can see the walkthrough video at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0PPMHITJ but after that there is two unmapped scare zones. Im not sure if Busch Gardens did this purposely to scare guests by taking them unexpectedly (No where to hide) or what. If that’s the case, I thought it was a nice touch. Here is the link to the Bonus scare zone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYu_j9nM5hM&t=41s

“Howl-O-Scream Map”

After going through those scare zones you come to a scare zone that is actually on the map, its called Dia De Los Muertos. Anyways this scare zone wasn’t all that “scary” it was actually kinda cute. What are your thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9weVkGIbsFI&t=99s This scare zone wrapped up the full circle, and it was off to the rides for us! By the way, the rides have scare-actors too, make sure you aren’t a single rider 😉 If you miss them at one ride try another, the scare-actors rotate every thirty minutes!

Howl-O-Scream is a definite must do for the halloween season if you think you are brave enough for the challenge! To get more information, or to buy tickets you can go to: https://buschgardens.com/tampa/events/howl-o-scream/
